Game Of Thrones Star Joins Beatles Biopic Series As The “Fifth Beatle”

Sam Mendes’ upcoming Beatles biopic film series has officially cast a Game of Thrones star as the fifth Beatle, the band’s producer, George Martin.

The producer’s son, Giles Martin, revealed during an episode of Virgin Radio U.K.’s Ryan Tubridy Show, that British actor Harry Lloyd would be portraying his father in Mendes’ The Beatles – A Four-Film Cinematic Event. Lloyd is best known for his role as Viserys Targaryen (Daenerys’ abusive brother) in Game of Thrones season 1.

Martin, who is a record producer, songwriter, and composer, verified the actor’s role, “My dad — I’m not sure if that’s been announced — my dad is very good, he’s a guy called Harry Lloyd.” He praised his performance and believes that he will do a great job playing his father. He added, “He’s really good.”

Aside from Lloyd, The Beatles – A Four-Film Cinematic Event has also cast the iconic members of the titular band. The films will feature Paul Mescal as Paul McCartney, Harris Dickinson as John Lennon, Joseph Quinn as George Harrison, and Barry Keoghan as Ringo Starr. Other members of the cast include Saoirse Ronan (Linda McCartney), Mia McKenna-Bruce (Maureen Starkey Tigrett), Anna Sawai (Yoko Ono), Aimee Lou Wood (Pattie Boyd), and James Norton (Brian Epstein).

The late Martin was often referred to as the “fifth Beatle” as he played a pivotal role in shaping the band and turning them into the iconic group they were. He also produced all but one of their 13 studio albums. The esteemed producer won six Grammy Awards, including Best Contemporary Album and Album of the Year for Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band.

His son stated on the same episode of Virgin Radio U.K.’s Ryan Tubridy Show, that while it was strange to see someone else playing his dad, it’s not something that he is very concerned about, as he just wants to mind his own business. “My life has been so bizarre anyway — it’s so weird if I think about — and I don’t think about it. You just kind of do your job,” he explained.

The Beatles – A Four-Film Cinematic Event doesn’t have an exact release date yet, but its release window will be in April 2028.
