Peter Kay was forced to momentarily halt his Liverpool show tonight after a technical issue disrupted the opening moments of his performance. The 52-year-old comedian, famed for Phoenix Nights, Car Share and his work with Paddy McGuinness in Max and Paddy, took to the stage at the M&S Bank Arena at 8pm for the first of two back-to-back shows as part of his record-breaking Better Late Than Never tour.

But just minutes into the performance, Kay found himself unable to continue as a camera used to film the audience suddenly cut out. The fault left him with no option but to improvise while technicians attempted to fix the issue.

“What’s going on here? We can’t stop, everyone’s already come in!” he joked to thousands of fans.

“What shall I do? Shall I just fill? It’s warm in here isn’t it? It’s nice, that.”

Leaning into the moment, Kay sat down on a chair and continued chatting with the audience, making light of the mishap as he adlibbed his way through the unexpected break.

The comedian’s ongoing tour, which began in 2022, has been one of the most successful in British comedy history.

He has shattered attendance records at Manchester’s AO Arena and became the first artist in the world to hold a monthly residency at London’s O2 Arena, performing 45 shows, the highest number by any artist at the venue.

Due to unprecedented demand, Kay has repeatedly added new dates, extending the tour into 2026.

Despite the shaky start, fans welcomed his trademark humour and quick-witted response, with the show soon getting back on track.
