Although Tottenham eventually signed another player for the number ten role, there is little doubt that they missed out on someone of significant quality when Eze chose not to make the switch. His creativity, technical ability and confidence on the ball have been evident throughout the season, and his influence at Arsenal has grown steadily since his arrival. The Lilywhites will now face him this weekend, a moment that will offer a reminder of how close they came to signing him. It also presents an opportunity for them to measure themselves against a player who was once very much part of their plans.
