Jones: ‘It’s a wonderful challenge for us’

Nathan Jones is looking forward to being back at The Valley on Saturday as his side take on Southampton (KO 12.30pm GMT)

The Addicks have utilised the international break well ahead of an action-packed period in the Sky Bet Championship.

“It’s been important and we’ve needed it,” Jones explained. “We had a few illnesses and injuries in the week leading up to the international break, and so it’s given us time to put some work into people and get some respite into others.

“Everyone’s a lot closer, obviously being two weeks further down the line. Whether they’re ready to start or impact or not we’ll see, but we’re in a better place.”

Conor Coventry earned his full international debut in the Republic of Ireland’s brilliant 2-0 victory over Portugal in Dublin.

“I’m delighted and proud for him,” said the gaffer. “He’s excellent player and a really proud Irishman. In one of [Ireland’s] most wonderful weeks in recent years, he gets to be involved and make his debut against Portugal. I’m delighted for him, it’s well deserved.”
