Football Closes Out Season versus Norfolk State

WASHINGTON (November 21, 2025) – The Howard University football team will be looking to end the season on a winning note when it hosts Norfolk State University (NSU) Saturday (Nov. 22) at Audi Field in D.C. The game was originally scheduled to be played at Greene Stadium, but a decision was made to move the game. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m., and will be broadcast on ESPN+

NSU (1-10, 0-4 MEAC) has lost nine-in-a-row, the latest a 35-29 road setback at Morgan State (Nov. 15).
 
The Spartans were led offensively by sophomore quarterback Vinson Berry (17-of-31 for 174 yards & 2 TDs).
 
HOWARD
 
Howard (4-7, 1-3 MEAC) is coming off a 26-13 road loss at Delaware State Saturday (Nov. 15).
 
The Bison were led on offense by graduate quarterback Tyriq Starks (Carol City, Fla.), who had his best day Howard, completing 21-of-39 for 252 yards and a TD.

The Spartans opened the season with a 60-10 loss at Rutgers, followed by losses to Sacred Heart (28-13), Wagner (13-18), Hampton (34-41), Wofford (14-31), South Carolina State (20-51), Delaware State (20-27), North Carolina Central (28-31) and Morgan State (28-35).
 
HOWARD
 
On Aug. 30, the Bison opened the season with 10-9 win over Florida A&M at the Orange Blossom Classic in Miami Gardens, Fla., followed by a 55-7 loss at Temple (Sept. 6) before defeating Morehouse (Sept. 13) and Hampton (Sept. 20) back-to-back and then three straight road losses at Richmond (Sept. 27), Sacred Heart (Oct. 11) and Tennessee State (Oct. 18) before the OT win (33-27) over the Morgan State Bears (Oct. 25), followed by back-to-back-to back losses to North Carolina Central (Nov. 1), South Carolina State (Nov. 8) and Delaware State (13-26) on the road.

Norfolk State edged Howard, 21-20, last year in Norfolk, Va. The two have split the last eight but Howard holds a 20-10 advantage in the series.

Norfolk State is coached by Michael Vick (Virginia Tech, ’00), who is in his first season. Howard is led by Larry Scott (USF, ’00), who is in his sixth season.

SCOUTING THE SPARTANS
 
NSU is led by Berry (21-of-42 for 216 yards & 4 TDs).
 
Keon King powers the running game with 638 yards on 79 carries and 5 TDs.
 
Kam’Ryn Thomas (46 catches for 676 yards & 4 TDs), Dre’Sean Kendrick (52 catches for 648 yards & 4 TDs) and JJ Evans (34 receptions for 515 yards & 6 TDs) form a formidable receiving trio.
 
Defensively, the Spartans are led by redshirt sophomore defensive lineman David Ojiegbeo (35 total tackles & 8.0 TFLs), Terique Miles (77 total tackles, 5.0 TFLs, 4 PBs & a FR) and Daylar Long (60 total tackles, 6.5 TFLs, 2.0 sacks & a FR). 
 
On special teams, junior Noah Tracey is a solid punter (41 yards per punt, including a long of 65) and redshirt senior Jaylen White is averaging 22 yards per kick return.
 
SCOUTING THE BISON
 
On offense, the Bison will rely on the talents of Starks (159-of-280 for 1,605 yards & 8 TDs; 4 rushing TDs).
 
The run game is powered by the duo of sophomore running backs Travis Kerney (78 carries for 313 yards & 2 TDs) and Anthony Reagan Jr. (107 carries for 559 yards & 7 TDs; 20 receptions.)
 
The passing game will be bolstered by graduate wide receiver Andre Cooper II (20 receptions for 300 yards & a TD), Antonio Hunter (22 receptions for 258 yards), graduate wide receiver Breylin Smith (29 receptions for 234 yards & a TD), junior wide receiver Zaden Jackson (15 receptions for 148 yards & 2 TDs).
 
The nationally ranked Buffalo Soldier defense is led by senior linebacker Ja’Quavion Smith  (44 total tackles, 9.0 TFLs, 3.0 sacks, 2 FFs & 4 PBs), senior All-MEAC defensive lineman Noah Miles (34 total tackles, 8.0 TFLs, 4.5 sacks & a FR), junior defensive back Kaleb Gallop (40 total tackles, 3.0 TFLs, 1.5 sacks, a FR & an INT) senior linebacker Judah McJimpsey  (44 total tackles, 8.5 TFLs, 3.0 sacks, 2 FRs & 3 PBs) and redshirt freshman defensive back Zuri Watson (30 total tackles, 2.0 TFLs & a team-leading 8 PBs).
 
The special teams are paced by freshman punter Liam Allen IV (almost 41 yards per punt, including nine of 50 yards or more and 10 inside the 20-yard line), freshman wideout Antonio Hunter (almost 9 yards per punt return) and freshman kick returner John Washington III (23.7 yards per return). The Howard special teams have blocked three kicks this season.
