CHARLOTTE — Los Angeles Clippers guard Chris Paul will be retiring after the end of the 2025-26 NBA season.
Paul signaled earlier Saturday morning that this season, his 21st, will be his last in the league. The Clippers play on the road against the Charlotte Hornets on Saturday afternoon.
Paul — a native of Winston-Salem, N.C., and the fourth pick of the 2005 NBA Draft out of Wake Forest, posted a video on social media that featured highlights of his basketball career. The caption said: “Back in NC!!! What a ride… still so much left… GRATEFUL for this last one!!”
Paul is a 12-time All-Star, an 11-time All-NBA selection, and a nine-time All-Defense selection. He was also on the 2008 and 2012 Olympic basketball teams that won gold, and he was a member of the NBA’s 75th Anniversary Team. Only John Stockton has more career assists. Paul was the first player to score at least 20,000 points and record 10,000 assists.
This is Paul’s first season back with the Clippers after spending 2011 to 2017 with the franchise, helping the team to the first of 14 consecutive winning seasons.
Paul began his career in New Orleans, and after leaving the Clippers, he played in Houston, Oklahoma City, Phoenix, Golden State and San Antonio.
