Sally Lindsay to Return as Jean White in Christmas Special of The Madame Blanc Mysteries

Sally Lindsay, a prominent figure in the British entertainment landscape, has built a notable career since making her debut on the iconic television series Coronation Street in 2001. She portrayed the character of Shelley Unwin, a role that earned her critical acclaim, including the award for “Best Actress” at the 2005 Inside Soap Awards. After leaving the show in 2006, Lindsay’s career flourished, allowing her to explore various genres in both television and theater.

Following her time on Coronation Street, Lindsay starred in several successful television series, such as Mount Pleasant, where she played Lisa Johnson from 2011 to 2017, and ITV’s police drama Scott and Bailey, in which she portrayed Alison Bailey between 2011 and 2016. Her comedic talents shone in the BBC sitcom Still Open All Hours, where she played Kath Agnew until 2019. Most recently, she has taken on the dual roles of co-creator and star in the Channel 5 series The Madame Blanc Mysteries, which first aired in 2019.

Before her rise to fame, Sally showcased her singing abilities as part of the St Winifred’s School Choir, which achieved a number one hit with “There’s No One Quite Like Grandma” on the UK Singles chart in 1980. She also embraced stand-up comedy, collaborating with comedian Peter Kay in Phoenix Nights and appearing in the music video for the Comic Relief single “Amarillo.” Her versatility was further highlighted in her appearances on the beloved series The Royle Family.

After her significant role in Coronation Street, Lindsay transitioned seamlessly into theater, taking on diverse parts including Marilyn Monroe in the musical Ella, Meet Marilyn and leading in Much Ado About Nothing.

On the personal front, she is married to Steve White, a former drummer for The Style Council. Together, they welcomed twin sons in 2010, who have been a central part of her life. In a candid reflection during her appearance on Through the Keyhole, she discussed the dynamics of family life in their home in Heaton Mersey, Stockport, revealing the playful yet structured TV habits she maintains with her husband and children.

Speaking on the subject of aging, Lindsay expressed her newfound freedom as a mature woman, noting the significant cultural shifts regarding discussions around menopause and hormone replacement therapy. The stakes are high as Jean and her team race against the clock to defuse the bomb before disaster strikes, marking this as her most challenging adventure to date.
