20′ Wallabies in the contest

There is no lack of intent from the Wallabies, midway through the first half.

But they need to convert on their entries into the French 22.

12′ Wallabies squander scoring chance

The Wallabies were pinged at a line-out close to the French line, giving away a free kick.

Only moments later, the Wallabies regained possession and Harry Wilson broke through the defensive line.

But Nick Frost, looming up in support, knocked the ball on, giving France a scrum feed inside its 22.

9′ FRANCE LEVELS SCORES!

France reply through outside centre Nicolas Depoortère!

Depoortère was rewarded for his support play after France attacked down the right flank with a break from winger Louis Bielle-Biarrey.

Full marks to the French, who pounced on a Wallabies turnover.

3′ WALLABIES SCORE!

Matt Faessler scores!

What a start for the Wallabies!

They capitalised from the field position they earned from the opening penalty, before Faessler crashed over as a one-out runner from a ruck close to the line.

Tane Edmed missed the conversion attempt, so it’s the Wallabies leading 5-0.

2′ Encouraging start from the Wallabies

After the French kicked off, the Wallabies chose not to clear for touch inside their 22.

Instead, they ran the ball, with Angus Bell making an incisive break in the midfield.

The Wallabies would later get a penalty and they pumped the ball into touch, deep inside France’s half.

Let’s see what they can do from here …

Thaks for following!

Good Morning from wet Melbourne, Luke!

Great to have you on board, Jen!

And I know what you mean — I’m in Melbourne, too! Awful weather this morning.

It’s freezing in France

Summer is around the corner back home, but the Wallabies will be facing France in freezing conditions.

Snow has been predicted in and around Saint-Denis, so hopefully the weather doesn’t elimnate the chance of both sides producing attacking rugby.

France is the reigning Six Nations champ but its form has been patchy during the spring internationals this month.

Here’s the Wallabies line-up

Carton Gordon was set to start for the Wallabies. (Getty)

It’s hardly been a smooth prep for the Wallabies since last Sunday’s 46-19 thrashing at the hands of Ireland in Dublin.

Carter Gordon, only just back from the NRL, was ruled out because of a quad injury, having been named to start at fly half.

And hooker Billy Pollard was scratched due to a hip injury.

Tane Edmed and Matt Faessler will start in their place.

Among the bench players, Kalani Thomas is in line to make his Test debut.

The Wallabies’s matchday 23 is as follows:

15. Max Jorgensen

14. Harry Potter

13. Joseph-Aukuso Suaalii

12. Len Ikitau

11. Dylan Pietsch

10. Tane Edmed

9. Jake Gordon

Tale of the tape

The 1958 defeat in Paris is one of 16 the Wallabies have posted against Les Bleus on French soil.

The Wallabies have triumphed nine times, with one Test ending in a draw.

Overall, the ledger swings the way of the Wallabies, who have won 29 of 52 men’s Tests between the two nations.

France has 21 victories and there has been two draws.

The Wallabies’s most recent ‘W’ over the French away from home was in 2016, when they registered a 25-23 victory at Stade de France.

As a snapshot, here’s the results of the past five Tests between the two proud rugby nations:

  • France def Australia 30-29 at Stade de France (2022)
  • Australia def France 33-30 at Lang Park (2021)
