Army contacts patients following lawsuit against former Tripler gynecologist

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – The U.S. Army has contacted more than 1,400 women seen by a former Tripler Army Medical Center doctor accused of secretly recording his patients.
It comes after an anonymous patient treated by Dr. Blaine McGraw at Fort Hood in Texas filed a lawsuit last week.
The lawsuit alleges that McGraw inappropriately touched his patients, made crude remarks, and performed unnecessary procedures.
One alleged victim includes a patient from Tripler Army Medical Center, where McGraw was an intern and resident obstetrician-gynecologist (OBGYN) from 2019 to 2023.
The Army said nearly 90 patients have contacted its Criminal Investigation Division, but it is unclear how many were victims of misconduct.
Tripler Army Medical Center issued the following release on Nov. 21:
Tripler Army Medical Center (TAMC) leadership is in the process of notifying patients who were seen by a former resident in the Obstetrics and Gynecology Service between June 2019 and June 2023 that their provider is the subject of a criminal investigation by the Army Criminal Investigations Division. Patients will be provided with resources to learn about the investigation, file concerns, get answers to questions, and arrange medical care and other support.
The investigation was initiated on October 17, 2025, at Fort Hood, Texas, following a report to the Army Criminal Investigation Division regarding concerns with this provider. Tripler staff are fully cooperating with the CID investigation.
“Our patients’ health remains our absolute top priority,” said Col. William Bimson, TAMC director. “I know this information is incredibly upsetting to them, and we are here to provide support. We have many resources to offer, and we want to hear their concerns and help them get the medical care and other support they need.”
Any current patients who have questions or concerns should contact the Tripler Customer Relations Main Line at 808-469-1725 or email dha.tripler.tripler-amc.mbx.obgyn-medical-support@health.mil.

It also provided a copy of the notification letter that is being sent to patients:
Meanwhile, the Defense Health Agency issued the following statement addressing its Fort Hood patients:
The Defense Health Agency continues to fully cooperate with the ongoing criminal investigation being conducted by the Army Criminal Investigative Division regarding a military medical provider working at the Carl R. Darnall Army Women’s Health Center. Our first concern is for the patients and families affected by this situation. We know this news has created concerns and questions from our patients and our military community. Our patients and their families remain our highest priority as we respond to this situation.
We take allegations of inappropriate conduct with the utmost seriousness. The provider has been removed from all patient care activities while the investigation is ongoing. We have notified patients who received care from this provider at Darnall and another location where the individual delivered care and let them know of the investigation as well as the resources available to them if they require additional support. We have launched a comprehensive internal review staffed by clinical experts to ensure accountability, review systemic safeguards, and rebuild the confidence of our community in the hospital. In addition, we are also reviewing clinical protocols, supervision mechanisms, and reporting and complaint procedures across the entire enterprise to ensure that our hospitals remain a safe and secure environment for our beneficiaries and personnel.
Our MTF Patient Experience staff are available to support patients who have been affected by this situation. Behavioral health counseling is available for any patient or staff who may need additional care and support. The DHA remains committed to supporting our staff and our patients and continuing to provide world-class care throughout our enterprise.

McGraw is currently suspended while the investigation continues.
McGraw’s attorney believes Army special agents are providing inaccurate and exaggerated information to potentially influence the outcome of the case.
