Nathan Carman, the Vermont man accused of killing his mother during a 2016 fishing trip off Block Island, is the central figure in a true-crime documentary that premiered Nov. 19 on Netflix.

“The Carman Family Deaths” examines “a young man’s dramatic rescue at sea [that] spirals into accusations he murdered two members of his wealthy New England,” according to a show listing on Netflix.

Carman, who was rescued after he told authorities his boat sank and his mother, Linda Carman, disappeared, died by suicide while awaiting trial in her murder.

What does the documentary cover?

After looking at his rescue, the documentary follows the investigation of Carman’s relationship to the unsolved 2013 murder of his grandfather, millionaire real estate developer John Chakalos.

It includes interviews with Clark Carman, Linda’s ex-husband and Carman’s father; other family members and friends who offer insight into strained relationships within the family; Wired journalist Evan Lubofsky; and police, Coast Guard and FBI investigators.

It also includes video from the family archive and expert testimony, as well as family photos and official photos of Nathan Carman’s rescue at sea.

Viewers will even hear from Nathan Carman himself:

“I’ve asked myself, did I do the right thing?”

The case has been the subject of a number of books and documentaries.
