Rugby: Lamaro says Italy-Chile tough match to improve

Italy against Chile in the Quilter
Nation Series in Genoa Saturday night will be “a touch match
that will give us a chance to improve”, returning captain
Michele Lamaro said after missing last week’s thumping by a
ten-man South Africa that followed a win over Australia, the
Azzurri’s second ever.

“These matches are tricky, especially because you don’t know
your opponent very well. Chile is ranked behind us, but we’ve
struggled against similar opponents in the past, so we certainly
won’t underestimate them. They’re teams that show great pride
and come to Italy to cause us problems.

“We have to be good at staying focused on our job so as not to
let them get into the game: that will be the key to the match,”
added the Italy back row, returning from the injury that
prevented him from playing against Australia and South Africa.

“It’s great to be back with the group,” Lamaro said in a press
conference after the final training session, “and I can’t wait
to play tomorrow night. It was great to see my teammates play,
and it makes me even more proud of what we’re building as a
group.

“In the first match (against Austrial, ed.), I was really moved
to see the joy in their eyes.” “We showed great maturity against
South Africa,” the Italy captain emphasized, “but we can start
trying to seize the opportunities that come our way.

“Tomorrow we’ll have to try to improve on our last two matches,
continuing our growth. This can be achieved if we focus on the
basics first and then try to build something bigger.”
