‘The faster they go, the better he is’ – world’s best sprinter Ka Ying Rising stretches unbeaten run to 15

Ka Ying Rising, the world’s best sprinter, recorded a 15th consecutive success in the Group 2 Jockey Club Sprint at Sha Tin on Sunday.

The five-year-old was back on home soil for David Hayes after producing a sensational performance to win the Everest at Randwick, but looked every bit as good as he stretched clear under Zac Purton.

The five-time Group 1 winner was sent off a heavy odds-on favourite and always looked in control, breezing into the lead on the turn for home before accelerating clear for an easy win.

Purton said: “He’s come back in great order, and I’ve never seen him look so good. We were hoping he was going to come out and do something like that and it’s great.

“I know we posted a good time but it was all too slow for him. He was on his tippy toes in behind, wanting to go a stride quicker, and that’s the beauty with this horse because the faster they go, the better he is.

“It’s great for world racing that there’s a horse like Ka Ying Rising we can all tune in and watch.”

The victory sets him up for next month’s Hong Kong Sprint, the first top-level contest he won last season.
