Morgan Rogers inspires Aston Villa comeback to pile pressure on under-fire Daniel Farke

Morgan Rogers enhanced his growing reputation with a second-half double which maintained Aston Villa’s upward mobility and increased the scrutiny on under-fire Leeds boss Daniel Farke.

After Lukas Nmecha bundled in an eighth-minute opener for the hosts, Villa showed their class after the break to score twice through Rogers and clinch their ninth win in 11 games in all competitions.

The England international produced a delightful finish to convert Donyell Malen’s right-wing cross for a 48th-minute equaliser and then converted a sumptuous free-kick to win it in the 75th minute.

The result leaves Leeds rooted in the relegation zone after a fifth defeat from six Premier League games and raises serious questions over Farke’s position.

The German could take heart from his side’s first-half display against Unai Emery’s men, who went fourth with this win, but with Manchester City, Chelsea and Liverpool next up for Leeds, the outlook appears bleak for Farke.

Leeds had a goal ruled out for handball by substitute Dominic Calvert-Lewin that would have made it 2-2 soon after Rogers’ second and Emiliano Martinez made a superb save to keep out Joe Rodon’s header in the closing stages as Villa held on.
