Drag superstar Trixie Mattel is facing backlash for inviting allegedly anti-LGBTQ+ comedian Whitney Cummings onto her show.

On Tuesday (18 November), Cummings joined Mattel on her YouTube series, Out of Pocket with Trixie Mattel, where celebrity guests play pool while being interviewed by the All Stars season three winner.

Cummings sparked backlash earlier this year after sharing jokes cut from her CNN New Year’s Eve set, including one that misgendered Algerian boxer Imane Khelif.

Khelif was bombarded with transphobic hate at last year’s Paris Olympics after a row about her gender, despite her meeting all the relevant criteria to compete at the Games and the International Olympics Committee (IOC) ruling that her inclusion was “not a transgender issue” because she was born female and competes as a woman, went viral online.

Cummings wrote on X: “another 2024 CNN joke I cut for time: Shania Twain’s on the show tonight. Reminds me of this year’s Paris Olympic theme: “Man! I feel like a Woman!”

The comedian was later criticised for questioning the ability of LA’s first openly gay fire chief, Kristin Crowley, during the LA fires. As reported by the Star Observer, she wrote in a now-deleted X video: “I came across a video of the fire chief. A lesbian. Love it…. Tried to be one, didn’t take.

“I don’t think I’m a lesbian…I just live in Los Angeles. The men are so effeminate that honestly, at this point, dating a woman is like the straightest thing you can do.”

She went on to insinuate that the fire department only recruit LGBTQ+ people, adding, “I don’t recall voting on a prop that said we could recruit our fire team off Grindr. What?”

‘Your silence is beginning to speak volumes’

In response to her appearance on Mattel’s show, fans of the drag star took to social media calling for her to address the collaboration.

Commenting under her recent post, one fan wrote, “Keeping that video up the long is crazy. Do the right thing.”

Another wrote: “Why do you keep platforming transphobes??”

“Genuinely f**k you for platforming an anti-LGBTQ_ piece of s**t ghoul like Whitney. Your silence is beginning to speak volumes,” another fan wrote.

Someone else wrote “Girl can you delete that Whitney video…”

Others called out Mattel for refusing to acknowledge the problem, while someone else commented, “Pretending as if nothing happened… Remember when you didn’t only care about fame and famous people?”

Trixie Mattel is yet to address fans’ comments and concerns.
