Strictly fans have declared an ‘abomination’ on the BBC series as they said that Karen Carney’s ‘perfect’ routine was ‘robbed’ in Blackpool.
The former Lioness, who played 144 games and scored 33 goals for England, is currently competing in the BBC dancing competition with Carlos Gu.
Karen and Carlos are currently among the favourites to lift the Glitterball Trophy, with many pointing out that Karen has no prior dancing experience, while some other contestants do due to their careers.
Yet to have faced a dance-off, Karen and Carlos were among the six delighted couples when Claudia Winkleman and Tess Daly confirmed that no one was being sent home during Blackpool.
The news was revealed moments after it was confirmed that drag queen La Voix is fully withdrawing from the programme following advice from medics. La Voix, whose non-performer name is Chris Dennis, was competing on the programme with fan favourite professional dancer Aljaz Skorjanec.
Karen became only the second ever footballer to make it to Blackpool in Strictly’s 23 series. Prior to Karen achieving the feat, Alex Scott, who is currently on I’m A Celebrity, made it to the fan favourite week in 2019 with Neil Jones.
Saturday night (November 22) saw Karen and Carlos taking on the Paso Doble to O Fortuna by Carmina Burana. The live audience were loving the performance as Karen channeled her inner aggression on the dancefloor.

When it came time for the judges’ comments, Motsi Mabuse noted that she didn’t ‘have a paddle to express how good that was’, with the majority of the judging panels in agreement.
“Carlos, you’ve got me emotional, that choreography was of the highest quality, never seen a paso like it, you nailed everything like a top-class professional, epic and will go down in history,” Shirley Ballas stated.
With Anton De Beke calling the routine ‘an absolute tour de force’ and saying they ‘will never dance better’, Craig Revel Horwood pointed out that he ‘would’ve liked a little more softened Spanish line’ in spite of loving the ‘dramatic, passionate and incredible’ dance.
When it came time to reveal the scores, Craig was only won not to give a ten, choosing to award it nine points as Karen and Carlos scored an incredible 39 out of 40 points.
Those watching the episode at home rushed to X, previously known as Twitter, to express their frustration with the Paso Doble not being given a perfect score of 40, critiquing Craig for being hesitant with his ten paddle.

@fansvfavourites wrote: “Lewis could just stand there and he’d get a 40, but Karen does the best paso of all time and she gets a 39…? i smell riggory #Strictly.” @fansvfavourites stated: “need karen to do that when she’s in the final with george and lewis and i need her to WIN! It’s about time a woman won this show #Strictly.”
@JulietMckee commented: “Thank God Karen Carney is still in #StrictlyComeDancing. This is what the true competition is about. A complete novice coming out and performing like that. Absolutely STUNNING!” @KDCunliffe posted: “Karen Carney. Take a bow. Nearly took the roof off.”
