The “serious” scandal behind Spencer Matthews’ exit from I’m A Celeb in 2016, as wife Vogue enters jungle

Vogue Williams entered the I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! jungle last night, but her arrival prompted viewers to query why her husband, Spencer Matthews, was kicked off the show years prior.
Former Made In Chelsea star Spencer was a contestant on I’m A Celeb back in 2016, but he was removed from the hit ITV reality show before he even made it into the main camp.
His exit from the series shocked viewers at the time, but few can remember the reason for it. Scroll on for the details on just that…

Why did Spencer Matthews leave I’m A Celebrity?
Spencer Matthews was forced to quit I’m A Celeb in 2016 because he was secretly taking steroids. The reality star, who was 26 at the time, said he’d been using the pills to build muscle before a charity boxing match.
“Shortly after I arrived in Australia, I told the production team that I was taking a steroid-based medication that had begun some weeks ago,” Spencer said in a statement (per the BBC) after his exit from the show. “When I started taking this programme of pills, it was in preparation for a charity boxing match which, ironically, never took place.”

The Made in Chelsea alum went on: “Vanity, I suppose, had been the reason for wanting to bulk up a bit for the fight. I had intended to come off the pills gradually, but there was no time to do this before I reached the jungle.”
As a result of Spencer’s steroid use, the show’s production team decided it would be unsafe for him to continue, a decision he described as “extremely hard” to accept. “I pushed back, but ultimately the show’s duty of care prevailed and bags had to be packed,” he explained.
On reflection, Spencer said the whole situation was a “serious error of judgement” on his part.
I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! continues on ITV1 and ITVX at 9pm.
