I’m a Celeb star Martin Kemp’s wife Shirley reveals why she DIDN’T want him to be James Bond

MARTIN Kemp’s wife Shirley has confessed she didn’t want him to be cast as James Bond after the I’m a Celebrity star revealed he was in the running. 

Earlier this week Martin, 64, left his I’m a Celeb campmates stunned when he told how he’d been in the running to be 007 – but lost out to Pierce Brosnan.

Now his wife Shirley, 63, has admitted she wasn’t sold on the idea of her husband getting the huge part. 

Appearing on This Morning, she said: “I remember him going for the audition… I was worried – I didn’t know if I wanted my husband to be the next James Bond. 

“If he became Bond, what would that mean? And all those actresses around him! 

“I was like, ‘I don’t know if I want him to be the next Bond’. And also, he’s got a Cockney accent – I’ve never heard of a Cockney Bond.”

Martin and Shirley have been married since 1988 and share children Harley, 35, and Roman, 32.

Speaking to his co-stars this week, Martin said: “I was up for James Bond, I met Barbara Broccoli.

“Did that in my youth.”

Sat next to Kelly Brook, she appeared invested in the story and couldn’t believe it.

“He would have made a great Bond,” the former model, 45, said in the Bush Telegraph.

“He has got those beautiful blue eyes, he’s very tall, he’s got the charisma.”

Fans flocked to X, formerly Twitter, after the confession from Martin to share their thoughts. 

“Martin Kemp would have been the sexiest James Bond,” one wrote.

While a second said, “Martin Kemp would’ve been a top class Bond.”

A third added, “Martin Kemp definitely should’ve been James Bond!!”

Martin shot to fame in the 80s as a member of Spandau Ballet. 

In 1998 he joined EastEnders as bad boy Steve Owen, a role he held until 2002 when the character was killed off.
