Browns vs. Raiders live score updates from Shedeur Sanders’ 1st start

LAS VEGAS — Shedeur Sanders believes he’s ready for his moment. Well, his moment has arrived.
The fifth-round draft pick is getting his first NFL start when the Browns play at the Las Vegas Raiders. It’s provided a spotlight on a game that matches two 2-8 teams either trying to turn the corner or trying to finish high enough in the NFL draft to find their future at quarterback.
Sanders, though, could make the Browns rethink that latter position. It starts with his performance against the Raiders.

Can Sanders do it? Or is he just the latest role of the dice at the quarterback position that came up snake eyes for the Browns?
Follow along here throughout the much-hyped debut from Sin City:
The Browns lead the Raiders at halftime. Shedeur Sanders is 7-of-11 passing for 127 yards with an interception and a 65.3 passer rating.
Myles Garrett now has the Browns single-season sack record. Again, for the third time.
Garrett matched his record of 16 sacks when he got to Las Vegas Raiders veteran Geno Smith with 45 seconds remaining in the second quarter of the Browns game in Las Vegas. He had previously set the mark in the 2021 season, and matched it in 2022.
It was the fifth sack in the first half of Smith. An earlier sack by Mike Hall Jr. was officially taken away because it was considered a run play.
Garrett came into the game leading the NFL with 15 sacks. The NFL record is 22.5 sacks, set by Pro Football Hall of Famer Michael Strahan in 2001 and the Pittsburgh Steelers’ T.J. Watt in 2021. Garrett is on pace to record 25.5 sacks.
The Browns four-time All-Pro didn’t just tie his own record with that sack. He also joined J.J. Watt and Reggie White to become just the third player with three seasons of at least 16 sacks.
Shedeur Sanders connected on a big throw Jerry Jeudy for a gain of 39 yards. However, as Jeudy was trying to deke out a Raiders defense who was nowhere near him, Jeremy Chinn came up behind him and bunched the ball out.
Las Vegas’ Elandon Roberts fell on the football at the Raiders’ 24 with 3:50 remaining in the first half. However, the Raiders would do nothing with the turnover and ended up punting it back to the Browns.
The Browns forced another punt with another sack of Geno Smith. Maliek Collins picked up his second sack of the game, the Browns’ fifth, on third down to force a punt.
Add linebacker Devin Bush to the list of Browns players to get a sack of Raiders quarterback Geno Smith. Bush dropped Smith for an 8-yard loss on second down, the fourth sack of Smith.
Malachi Corley returned the Raiders kickoff 33 yards. With an additional five yards added for an illegal formation penalty, the Browns started at their own 41.
However, Corley loss six on a first-down jet sweep set the Browns back. They would end up going three-and-out.
Daniel Carlson’s second try was good. After missing a field goal on the previous possession, Carlson made a 41-yard field goal to make sure the Raiders turned Shedeur Sanders’ interception into point.
The kick makes it 14-3 Browns with 9:12 remaining.
The Browns got their third sack of the game, this time by Mike Hall Jr. The sack pushed the Raiders into a third-and-13 situation.
Shedeur Sanders threw into triple coverage on the first play of the Browns’ fourth possession. Defensive end Charles Snowden, who was dropping into coverage, picked off the pass that was thrown right at him.
Snowden returned the pick to the Cleveland 26.
The Raiders turned to Daniel Carlson to try and salvage points from their best drive of the game. However, Carlson’s 48-yard kick went wide left with 11:28 remaining in the second quarter.
The Browns maintain a 14-0 lead.
The Browns hold a two-score lead going into the second quarter. The Raiders are at midfield.
Quinshon Judkins scored on a 2-yard run out of the Wildcat with 48 seconds remaining in the first quarter. It’s Judkins’ second such touchdown in the game, which Cleveland leads 14-0.
Shedeur Sanders turned what could’ve been a disastrous third-down play into the biggest pass play of the season. He rolled to his right, eluded pressure and threw one long to Isaiah Bond.
Bond pulled in the pass for a 52-yard completion to the Raider 2.
Tight end Harold Fannin Jr. turned a short pass from Shedeur Sanders into a hard-fought 17-yard gain before he was forced out of bounds at the Browns 44. At the end of the play, fellow Mid-American Conference alumnus Maxx Crosby gave him a tap on the helmet.
Geno Smith is not a popular player in Las Vegas. The Raiders quarterback has heard the boos all game, especially after losing 8-yard on a sack by Shelby Harris to open their third possession.
Shedeur Sanders couldn’t escape from the grasp of Malcolm Koonce on second-and-13 from the Raiders 37. The sack was the first of the game for Sanders, who tried to get out of the pocket and run, but was tracked down.
Sanders’ third-down deep shot to a well-covered Jerry Jeudy was too long.
The Browns nearly got to Raiders quarterback Geno Smith on second down, but he threw it up before Ronnie Hickman and Myles Garrett could get him. That wasn’t the case on third down, when Smith was swarmed under by a host of Browns defenders for a 9-yard loss.
Maliek Collins was the one ultimately credited with the sack.
The Browns went with a different player behind center to score the first touchdown of the game. Running back Quinshon Judkins took the Wildcat snap, ran to the right and scored on an 8-yard touchdown run.
Cleveland leads 7-0 with 8:24 remaining in the first quarter.
The Browns got a big play with their punt return team.
Gage Larvadain returned A.J. Cole’s punt for 44 yards. Cole’s tripping penalty put the ball at the Raiders 13 to open their second offensive possession.

Shedeur Sanders was 2-of-2 on his first possession. However, the Browns still were forced to go three-and-out after his 6-yard completion to Isaiah Bond left them two yards shy.

The Raiders won the toss and deferred to the second half. That meant Shedeur Sanders was going to start the game with the football.
Right tackle Jack Conklin will play against the Raiders despite suffering a knee injury in the fourth quarter of the Browns’ Week 11 loss to the Baltimore Ravens. He was listed as questionable entering the game, the only player whose status was up in the air for the game.
Conklin’s presence means the Browns will have the same starting offensive line for the fourth consecutive game and fifth out of the last six games. Conklin missed the Week 7 game against the Miami Dolphins, the only time in that span they didn’t have the full five out there.
Left tackle Cam Robinson also was coming off a knee injury he sustained against the Ravens. However, he, like Conklin, practiced all week and wasn’t given an injury designation for the game.
That means Sanders will have all five offensive linemen, something he didn’t even have when he came in for the second half of the Ravens game. Robinson was already out of the game by that time, and Conklin would leave in the fourth quarter.
