Bruins activate Elias Lindholm after 10-game absence

Already playing well in the Atlantic Division, the Boston Bruins are set to get a key piece back in their lineup.

The Bruins activated centre Elias Lindholm after a 10-game absence with a lower-body injury, the team announced Sunday ahead of its showdown with the San Jose Sharks.

In a corresponding move, defenceman Charlie McAvoy was placed on injured reserve.

Lindholm suffered the injury in a game against the Buffalo Sabres on Oct. 30. He exited the outing in the second period after a collision with Sabres forward Jordan Greenway.

Before the injury, the 30-year-old Swede was off to a fast start on the season, tallying four goals and five assists in 13 games while centring the Bruins’ top line next to star winger David Pastrnak. He sat fourth in team scoring at the time of the injury.

Lindholm is in the midst of his second season with the Bruins after joining the team in free agency in 2024 on a seven-year contract.

McAvoy, meanwhile, has been out since Nov. 15 with a facial injury. The blueliner took a puck to the face against the Montreal Canadiens and underwent surgery.

There is not currently a timeline for his return.

The 27-year-old defenceman has been a cornerstone of Boston’s back end this season, logging 14 assists before being sidelined.

The Bruins are currently fourth in the Atlantic with a 13-10-0 record.
