REPORT: Tim Allen Done With ‘Toy Story’

Tim Allen has shared an update on his role in the Toy Story franchise.
Three decades since the first Toy Story film debuted in theaters, the franchise is still going strong. Even more impressive is the fact that it has managed to do so with its core duo still intact. Tom Hanks and Tim Allen have voiced Woody and Buzz Lightyear, respectively, since 1995, with both voicing the enemies-turned-best friends in Toy Story 2 (1999), Toy Story 3 (2010), and Toy Story 4 (2019).

The pair have also reprised their roles in several additional projects over the years, including Toy Story of Terror! (2013) and Toy Story That Time Forgot (2014).
While some fans feel like the franchise met its natural end with Toy Story 3 – in which Woody and Buzz bid adieu to their owner, Andy, and moved on with Bonnie – it seems like the toys aren’t saying goodbye to viewers any time soon.
Despite Woody going his separate ways with Bo Peep as a lost toy at the end of Toy Story 4, next year will see the gang reunite in Toy Story 5 (2026) for a plot that’s set to explore the youth of today’s reliance on technology (specifically, in the case of the Pixar universe, the “LilyPad tablet”). As per director Andrew Stanton (via Empire), “It’s not even really about a battle so much as the realisation of an existential problem: that nobody’s really playing with toys anymore. Technology has changed everybody’s lives, but we’re asking what that means for us — and to our kids. We can’t just get away with making tech the villain.”

Pixar Animation hasn’t revealed too much about what fans can expect beyond this arc, other than the fact that Jessie (Joan Cusack) will apparently act as its main protagonist.
In May, Buzz Lightyear star Tim Allen told Entertainment Tonight that the new movie is “a story about Jessie” and is very “clever.” He later shared more information on the film during an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, where he doubled down on Jessie’s role as the lead.
“It’s all about Jessie, which is really cool,” Allen said. “She’s in trouble, and she needs help. We’re all over, so she has to gather everybody.”
Now, Tim Allen has shared an update specifically about his involvement in the film – and revealed that he’s totally done.
Tim Allen Shares New Information About His Part in ‘Toy Story 5’
A recent post on X, formerly known as Twitter, saw the Buzz Lightyear voice actor confirm that he’s officially wrapped on Toy Story 5.
I did wrap my part in Toy Story 5 Friday. Really affected me. I love these creators and love this story and blessed to be in this wonderful space suit for so many years.

Allen revealed that he finished recording his lines for the project – which is due for release on June 19, 2026 – on Friday.
“I love these creators and love this story and [am] blessed to be in this wonderful space suit for so many years,” Allen said.
While there’s no word yet on whether Tom Hanks or Joan Cusack has wrapped filming, it seems safe to assume that Pixar is close to putting the finishing touches on the project if Allen has already finished.

Much like Tom Holland in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and John Boyega in the Star Wars universe, Allen has proven rather loose-lipped about the Toy Story franchise, so you can count on him for honest updates on its next installments. Earlier this year, he also told Jimmy Kimmel about the opening scenes of Toy Story 5.
“We’re [in] a FedEx plane [when] a hundred Buzz dolls land, and they’re all lost. They’re hysterical. They’re trying to find their way back, and there are a hundred of them. I hope they have it in there,” Allen said.
