Houston Rockets star Kevin Durant will miss the next two games — including his return to Phoenix — while dealing with a family matter, a team source confirmed to The Athletic.
Monday’s matchup in Phoenix will be the first game Durant has missed this season after being active in each of his first 14 games as a member of the Rockets. He’s averaging 24.6 points, 4.8 rebounds and 3.3 assists, which has played a big part in Houston’s 10-4 start.
Monday was supposed to be Durant’s first game in Phoenix after the Suns traded him to Houston over the summer in a deal that included Jalen Green, Dillon Brooks and the No. 10 pick in the 2025 NBA Draft (Khaman Maluach) going to the Suns. Green also will be sidelined for Monday’s game. He’s missed all but two games this season because of hamstring injuries.
Durant additionally is expected to miss Wednesday’s game against another one of his former teams, the Golden State Warriors, while tending to his family matter.
Since Durant’s arrival, the Rockets have built the No. 1 offense in the NBA and are considered one of the biggest threats to win the Western Conference, along with the Denver Nuggets and the reigning NBA champion Oklahoma City Thunder.
