3 candidates the Raiders could replace OC Chip Kelly with

The Las Vegas Raiders endured another difficult game in Week 11, losing 33-16 to the Dallas Cowboys on Monday Night Football. The offense scored 20 or fewer points for the seventh time this season. Chip Kelly’s unit is now the 31st-ranked scoring offense, managing 15.5 points per contest. The only lower-scoring team is the Tennessee Titans, who have a rookie quarterback, and fired their head coach and play caller weeks ago.
Head coach Pete Carroll has consistently expressed disappointment in his offense. Could the Raiders still consider making an in-season change at offensive coordinator? If so, we’ve identified three candidates on staff who could replace Kelly as the play caller.
Greg Olson, QB coach
Quarterbacks coach Greg Olson would be the likely candidate. Olson was Carroll’s quarterbacks coach in Seattle (2023), and the two reunited this campaign. He was the Raiders’ offensive coordinator in 2013-14 and again in 2018-2021. He also had play-calling stints with the Lions (2004-05), Rams (2006-07), Buccaneers (2009-11), and Jaguars (2015-16).
Chris Beatty, WR coach
If Carroll preferred to opt for a fresher name, wide receivers coach Chris Beatty would be an intriguing candidate. Beatty became the Chicago Bears’ interim offensive coordinator in 2024 after Shane Waldron was fired. Besides that, he has coordinator experience in college at Hampton (2006), Illinois (2012), and Maryland (2018).
Joe Philbin, senior offensive assistant
Joe Philbin is on staff as Carroll’s senior offensive assistant. Would the aging Philbin even possess interest in taking on such a large responsibility? He’s mostly been an offensive analyst/assistant in recent years. Though his resume is littered with head coaching and coordinator experience, his last notable title was as the Packers’ interim head coach in 2018.
