A North Tyneside school has been closed due to a “potential critical threat”. Kings Priory School in Tynemouth notified parents of the closure through the school’s ParentMail channel, and that it is a precautionary measure.

The school advised parents to await further updates, and said details would be shared when appropriate.

An email sent to parents from Principal Philip Sanderson on Sunday evening read: “It is with deep regret, I write to you now to say that due to a potential critical threat, Kings Priory School will need to be closed on Monday, November 24 2025. Of course, I will share when appropriate the details of the situation.

“I wholly understand the inconvenience this will cause and I will be in touch as soon as possible.”

Coun Lewis Bartoli, deputy leader of the North Tyneside Conservative Group and councillor for Tynemouth, said: “I’d ask people not to speculate or put any rumours out.

“Whilst the language is concerning, it might not be something to worry about. Let’s wait until we know all the facts.”
