‘Potential critical threat’ which has closed school deemed not credible | ITV News

A “potential critical threat” which has prompted the closure of a North Tyneside school has been deemed not credible by police.

Kings Priory School, in Tynemouth, notified parents of the precautionary measure for Monday morning through the school’s ParentMail channel last night.

Northumbria Police has since confirmed that it responded to a report of a malicious communication which, after investigation, was not deemed credible.

An email from the school’s Principal Philip Sanderson, sent to parents late on Sunday, said: “It is with deep regret, I write to you now to say that due to a potential critical threat, Kings Priory School will need to be closed on Monday, November 24 2025.

“Of course, I will share when appropriate the details of the situation. I wholly understand the inconvenience this will cause and I will be in touch as soon as possible.”

However, Northumbria Police said on Monday morning that there was no credible threat to the school.

A spokesperson for the force said: “Just after 4.30pm yesterday (Sunday), we received a report of malicious communications directed towards at a secondary school in North Tyneside.

“Officers attended immediately to carry out enquiries and established there to be no credible threat to the school, its pupils or staff.”

Kings Priory School has been contacted for comment.
