Google developing direct NotebookLM import for Gemini

Google is preparing a new feature for Gemini that will allow users to import notebooks directly, making the integration with NotebookLM even more seamless. This development is reflected in the recent code changes that add a visible link to NotebookLM, providing users with an easy navigation path between the two products. In addition, the Attachments menu in Gemini is being expanded. Alongside existing options like code import, photo uploads, and file uploads, a new option for adding notebooks will be introduced. This move suggests that users may soon be able to work with their sources and data natively within Gemini.

The specifics of how this notebook import will function are not fully clear yet, as the feature remains in development. However, the ability to attach and work with notebooks directly could enable more advanced research and data workflows, especially for those who already rely on NotebookLM for structured information management. This would be particularly valuable for professionals and researchers who move between the two tools and require quick, reliable access to their notebooks and files.
Google’s recent focus has been on strengthening the connections between its Gemini ecosystem products, aiming to streamline user workflows and boost productivity. By making it possible to leverage NotebookLM content inside Gemini, Google is positioning its tools to appeal to a broader range of users who demand deeper integration and more flexible knowledge management. While there is no confirmed release timeline, the feature is still being refined and is expected to take some time before it becomes publicly available.
