McDonagh earns maiden All-Australian selection

Hawthorn forward Áine McDonagh has been named in the 2025 All-Australian team.

Áine McDonagh has been recognised for her outstanding AFLW season, with selection in the 2025 All-Australian team.

This marks McDonagh’s maiden All-Australian blazer in her fourth season at the highest level, named at half forward.

Playing every game in 2025, McDonagh was a key pillar in Hawthorn’s forward line.

The 27-year-old kicked a career-high 22 goals for the season (including finals), which saw her top the club’s leading goalkicker list, in addition to ranking sixth in the league.

A strong presence in the attacking half, McDonagh averaged 12.1 disposals, 1.6 goals, 5.4 score involvements, 2.4 tackles and 2.2 marks per game.

General Manager of AFLW Keegan Brooksby congratulated McDonagh on her selection in the team.

“For Áine to be recognised among the best in the league is a thoroughly deserved honour and a true testament to her dedication,” Brooksby said.

“Áine has put together an impressive body of work this season, from being named in the leadership group to her career-best goal tally, it’s been a joy to watch.

“Having never touched a football before joining Hawthorn back in 2022, to now being an All-Australian forward is something she should be very proud of, and we’re certainly proud of her.”
