Thanksgiving is this Thursday, and if you are looking to mail a package or conduct a banking transaction, you may have to wait until Black Friday to do so.

While some grocery store, restaurant and retail chains will be open on Thanksgiving, banks and post offices will be closed. Shipping services such as UPS and FedEx will also not be available, according to the companies.

The stock market will also be closed on Thanksgiving since it is a federal holiday.

Here’s what you need to know about banks, post offices, and shipping services, and whether or not they will be open on Thursday, Nov. 27, and Friday, Nov. 28 this year.

When are Thanksgiving and Black Friday in 2025?

Thanksgiving is on Thursday, Nov. 27, this year. Black Friday is on the following day – Friday, Nov. 28.

Is the post office open on Thanksgiving and Black Friday? Will mail be delivered?

Post offices will be closed on Thanksgiving and mail will not be delivered, according to the U.S. Postal Service’s website.

Post offices will reopen for retail transactions on Friday, Nov. 28, and mail will be delivered on that day.

Are banks open on Thanksgiving and Black Friday?

Branches of Bank of America, Truist, PNC, Capital One, Wells Fargo, CitiBank, JPMorgan Chase, and other banks will be closed on Thursday, Nov. 27 in observance of Thanksgiving.

Banks will reopen under their regular operating hours on Black Friday.

Are shipping services, like UPS and FedEx, open on Thanksgiving and Black Friday?

UPS pickup and delivery services will not be available on Thanksgiving, and UPS Store locations may be closed, according to the company’s website. It is best to check with your local store for specific hours of operation.
