Manchester United vs Everton preview
Manchester United take on Everton in the Premier League tonight and both managers know all about the pressures of the top job at Old Trafford.
Ruben Amorim has been prominent in the sack-race betting for most of his career in England while Everton’s David Moyes lasted only ten months after being appointed as Sir Alex Ferguson’s successor in July 2013.
Despite finishing 15th in the Premier League and losing to Tottenham in the Europa League final last season, Amorim has outlasted Moyes.
The former Sporting coach celebrated his one-year anniversary at Old Trafford this month and appears to be slowly turning around United’s stricken tanker.
The Red Devils rode their luck to claim a memorable 2-1 win at Liverpool last month although they needed late goals to claim 2-2 draws at Nottingham Forest and Tottenham in their last two matches.
United certainly don’t appear capable of controlling games and grinding out stress-free victories on a consistent basis.
However, they have rediscovered their attacking swagger, helped by summer signings Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha, and they should be backed to claim an entertaining win against Everton.
United were unfortunate to lose 1-0 at home to Arsenal in their opening fixture but they have beaten Burnley 3-2, Chelsea 2-1, Sunderland 2-0 and Brighton 4-2 in four subsequent games at Old Trafford.
A similar level of performance should be enough against Everton, who have struggled on the road and are missing centre-back Jarrad Branthwaite, who has been linked with a move to United.
Jack Grealish, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and Iliman Ndiaye provide a decent creative thrust for the Toffees but strikers Beto and Thierno Barry have scored one goal in 998 minutes of league action so Moyes may not enjoy a successful return to Manchester.
Garner should get shooting opportunities on Old Trafford return
James Garner scored a cracking goal against Brighton in Everton’s first game at the Hill Dickinson Stadium and the midfielder could showcase his shooting ability tonight.
Garner had four shots in this month’s home win over Fulham and he is a nice price to have at least a couple of efforts against his boyhood club.
United captain Fernandes could strike early
Bruno Fernandes has a great record against Everton, claiming six goals and five assists in 11 appearances, and he should be backed to open the scoring against the Toffees.
United’s captain struck first in September’s home win over Chelsea and scored a hat-trick as Portugal hammered Armenia 9-1 in their final World Cup qualifier.
Manchester United vs Everton Bet Builder
Manchester United to be leading at half-time
The Red Devils have conceded only four first-half goals in 11 Premier League games and they were leading at half-time in each of their last five matches.
James Garner to have one or more shots
Everton’s midfielder came through the youth system at United and is an underrated attacking threat, racking up 19 shots in his last eight appearances in all competitions.
Idrissa Gueye to have one or more shots
Garner’s midfield partner has also been getting forward to good effect, scoring against Fulham last time out and firing in seven shots in five away games.
Pays out at 9-2 with Coral
