Weather forecast Galway: Don’t pack away the umbrella as rain will make a return

Rain is expected in Galway this week

The past week has seen wintery frost slowly creep in as temperatures begin to dip and homes across Galway turn the heating up.

Over the next few days the temperatures will continue to fluctuate, becoming milder towards the weekend.

However while the week may start out dry, don’t pack away the umbrella quite yet as you can expect the odd shower to make an appearance as well.

It will turn duller and wetter, but milder, in the middle of the week before becoming cooler again with a mix of sunshine and showers later on.

According to Met Éireann, Monday will be a cold night with long clear spells. It will be mostly dry apart from a few isolated showers feeding from the north. Lowest temperatures of -1 to 4 degrees with light to moderate northwesterly winds are to be expected.

Meanwhile on Tuesday, after a dry and bright morning for many with good spells of sunshine, it will gradually turn cloudier from the west through the afternoon and evening.

Outbreaks of rain and drizzle will push into western Atlantic counties in the evening while highest temperatures of 6 to 10 degrees with a light variable or westerly breeze are expected.

Wednesday is expected to see widespread rain in the morning clearing around midday, giving way to more patchy outbreaks of drizzle and misty conditions. Temperatures will be relatively mild with highs of 11 to 13 degrees. Moderate to fresh southerly winds will veer westerly with the clearance of the rain.

Thursday will start off cloudy with a band of rain moving eastwards across the country through the morning and afternoon. As the rain clears, it will be followed by a mix of sunny spells and showers.

It will be relatively mild with highest temperatures of 12 to 14 degrees. Southwesterly winds with be moderate to fresh and gusty, stronger on Atlantic coasts.

Friday will see widespread showers throughout the day in the west, some of which will be heavy and with a possibility of hail and thunder. There will be some sunny spells too. It will be colder than the previous two days with highest temperatures of 8 to 11 degrees with moderate to fresh southwesterly winds.
