Manchester United forward Matheus Cunha missed a Christmas lights switch-on after picking up a minor knock.
The Brazil international had been due to appear at the event in Altrincham, around eight miles south of Manchester, alongside actor Sam Aston, a star of the UK soap opera Coronation Street.
Cunha sustained a knock in training on Saturday and, though it was regarded as a minor issue, he was forced to stay at home and miss the event, which was not a club appearance.
Just hours before the switch-on, event organisers Visit Altrincham confirmed that Cunha would no longer be attending.
“Unfortunately Matheus Cunha has had an accident in training today and will not be able to attend tonight’s Christmas Lights Switch-On in Altrincham due to medical reasons,” they said in a post on their Facebook page.
Cunha joined Ruben Amorim’s side in the summer from Wolverhampton Wanderers after United met his £62.5million ($83.7m) release clause. He has made 10 appearances in all competitions this season, scoring once, with United 10th in the Premier League table ahead of a clash with Everton on Monday.
The 26-year-old sustained a hamstring injury in late August that kept him out for just under three weeks.
