‘I expect to get a shot on goal’: Michael Keane on his Impressive Record for Everton

Everton defender Michael Keane has revealed what makes him such a goal threat for the Toffees.
The 32-year-old has already scored twice in the league this season. Indeed, the centre-back is one of the best finishers at the club.
His statistics in front of goal support this. Since 2020, Keane has 13 goals, the second highest of any defender in the league.
Speaking with the Liverpool Echo, Keane insists that he ‘expects to get a shot on goal’ when going up for set pieces.
He said: “I think there is an emphasis on all of us to chip in. Not just because the strikers have not been scoring but when you want to push up the table, I don’t think you can just rely on just the strikers scoring goals.”
The defender continued: “I think goals have to come from all over the pitch. With players like Jack (Grealish) in the team, we get a lot of free-kicks these days and corners, so that gives more opportunities for others, including defenders like myself, to get goals.
“It’s good for us. I go up for set plays and expect to score, I expect to get a shot on goal at least.
“I try and play my part, as do the others, and I’m sure the strikers will be looking to do that as well.”
KEANE’S GOAL THREAT A REAL ASSET FOR MOYES’ EVERTON
Everton travel to Keane’s former stomping ground tomorrow evening as Moyes’ side take on Manchester United.
United are unbeaten in the last five league games, though Everton remain just three points behind the in-form side.
No doubt Keano will be eyeing up a goal against his former club. Reflecting on the game, the Everton defender said: “It will be a good game for us. We need to play well and give ourselves a chance because they’re definitely beatable.”
