Manchester United return to Premier League action on Monday evening following the final international break of the year.
The Reds have enjoyed a far more promising start to the season compared to last year, with five wins from their 11 league matches so far. They currently sit tenth in the standings, but a win over Everton on Monday would take them into the top five, and potentially into fourth depending on the scoreline.
However, Ruben Amorim has still had to navigate a handful of injury concerns, including one to summer striker signing Benjamin Sesko. That said, United currently have a relatively modest injury list compared to some of their league rivals.
Here, MEN Sport takes a look at United’s current fitness concerns and when those players can expect to return to action…
Benjamin Sesko
United’s summer striker signing Sesko has been sidelined since before the international break, when he was forced off with a knee injury against Tottenham. As a result, he didn’t join up with the Slovenian national team for their World Cup qualifiers against Sweden and Kosovo.
It does not appear a return is imminent either, as Amorim confirmed in his pre-Everton press conference that the 22-year-old is not quite ready to come back. “He is going to stay a few weeks out,” the United boss said.
“I don’t know how long but it is not that serious. We have to be careful with him. He is going to recover. He is doing the recovery and he is feeling better so we expect in a few weeks to have him back.”
Potential return date: Wolves (A) – December 8.
Matheus Cunha
Another of United’s summer signings, Matheus Cunha, is also a surprise doubt for the Everton clash after he was forced to pull out of a Christmas lights switch-on in Altrincham over the weekend. The Brazilian was due to attend the event on Saturday night, but “medical reasons” were cited as the reason for his absence.

“Unfortunately, Matheus Cunha has had an accident in training today and will not be able to attend tonight’s Christmas Lights Switch on in Altrincham due to medical reasons,” VisitAltrincham wrote in a statement.
It remains unclear how serious the issue is or whether he will feature against the Toffees.
Potential return date: Unknown.
Kobbie Mainoo
Midfielder Kobbie Mainoo faces a late fitness test ahead of the meeting at Old Trafford. Amorim revealed in his press conference late last week that he hadn’t trained, but could still return in time for Everton.
“Kobbie didn’t train today, but I think tomorrow we could see Kobbie, so we will see,” the manager explained.
Potential return date: Everton (H) – November 24.
Harry Maguire
Defender Harry Maguire also picked up a muscular injury in the draw with Tottenham prior to the international break. He was forced off shortly after the 70th minute and replaced by Leny Yoro.
Amorim confirmed last week that the England international will not be ready for the visit of Everton and it is currently unclear when he will return.
Potential return date: Unknown.
Lisandro Martinez
United’s long-term absentee is defender Lisandro Martinez, who sustained an ACL injury back in February. After nine months on the sidelines, he is understood to be closing in on a return, having been building up his fitness after a prolonged period out.
“I feel that Licha is becoming close to being ready to play,” the United boss revealed last week. “Of course, we need to be careful, he’s going to struggle in the first minutes, but he’s clearly in a better position when you compare two weeks ago.”
Potential return date: November 2025
