Who Is Tom Read Wilson, And Is That His Real Voice? Meet The I’m A Celeb Star

If, like us, you’re celebrating the festive lead up by watching our celebs leave their lives of luxury behind as they enter the I’m A Celebrity jungle, then you’ve no doubt noticed some camp latecomers.

Although they weren’t part of the initial line up joining the show, Vogue Williams and Tom Read Wilson were two of this year’s newcomers to enter the camp – joining the likes of Martin Kemp, Angry Ginge and Ruby Wax.

And it didn’t take long for Tom to find an unlikely ally in Aitch. The rapper approached Tom to ask about ‘all this lingo’ – referencing Tom’s passion for etymology – with Tom revealing his love for language came from his ‘wonderful dad’, who worked as an English teacher.

Drawing comparisons between himself and the Mancunian-musician, Tom explained, ‘I think it’s very like what you do in another way, because you’re a poet. I’m not a poet at all, but I love the lyricism of it.’

It was a moment I’m A Celeb viewers loved. ‘Aitch will be inviting Tom to the studio for some new lingo,’ joked one, as another added, ‘I love the way Tom speaks, it’s so refreshing. Like music to my ears.’

So, who is Tom Read Wilson? What does he do? And is that his real voice? Here’s everything you need to know about the Celebs Go Dating star.

Who is Tom Read Wilson?

Tom is a singer, actor, and TV personality best known for his role on the show Celebs Go Dating. He’s currently taking part in 2025’s I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here, saying, ‘My first thought when they approached me about taking part was abject terror. But I have got a very strict rule in life. If the only reason that you don’t want to do it is fear, you must do it, whatever it is.’

How old is Tom Read Wilson?

Born 12 November, 1986, Tom is currently 39 years old. If you’re into star signs, this also makes him a loyal and passionate Scorpio.

He grew up in rural Berkshire, before eventually settling in London as an adult. His dad worked as an English teacher, with his mum a French teacher. He previously revealed, ‘I’m very close to my parents, but sadly they are now separated and my dad has remarried. My mum is a French teacher and a wonderful, zesty, rather naughty character.’

What does Tom Read Wilson do?

After studying at the Royal Academy of Music, Tom went on to star in several musical theatre productions before auditioning for series five of The Voice. Auditioning with a sunny rendition of ‘Accentuate The Positive,’ he sadly failed to secure a chair turn.

From 2016 onwards, he kickstarted his TV career by joining the E4 show Celebs Go Dating, which sees unlucky in love celebs search for love. Starting out as a receptionist greeting the guests upon arrival, he’s now a senior client co-ordinator for the celebrity dating agency.

Of course, I’m A Celebrity isn’t his first foray outside of the Celebs Go Dating office. He’s had guest spots on shows including Love Island: Aftersun, Britain’s Got More Talent, Countdown, and even won Celebrity Mastermind in 2020 with his specialist topic of My Fair Lady.

He’s also a published author, having written books for both adults and children on the history of words – including Every Word Tells A Story, Wonderful Words That Tell A Tale, and On The Tip of my Tongue: The Perfect Word For Every Life Moment. Explaining his mission to make language less elitist, Tom previously said, ‘I think if you can get to the root, and you get to the familiar bit within that word, then it suddenly becomes a lot less complicated.’

Does Tom Read Wilson have a partner?

Tom Read Wilson has previously opened up about his sexuality, telling Pink News in 2018 that he identifies as gay. Revealing that he wouldn’t ‘trade [being gay] for anything,’ Tom shared, ‘If you have ever belonged to any marginalised group, it does make you more empathetic. I’d never trade it for anything, because it’s informed the way I am with everybody, really.’

It doesn’t appear that Tom has a partner at the moment (at least not one that he’s shared publicly.) In 2018, he did give a hint at what his dream partner would look like, saying, ‘I want them to be radically different to me on every possible level. I always say I don’t physically have a type except radically different to me, because I always think two-thirds of beauty lies in fascination.’

And while he’s not desperate to find a partner, Tom has previously shared that he would love to one day become a dad. He shared, ‘If someone came into my life, it would be a beloved addition. Most days I feel like a moist madeira sponge that doesn’t really require icing. But if there were icing, it wouldn’t go amiss. I’m so lucky I’ve got three godchildren, three nephews… But what I really crave is to have children of my own one day.’

Is Tom’s voice real on I’m A Celebrity?

When he appeared on the ITV show, fans quickly began googling whether that was Tom’s real voice we were hearing on our screens. As longtime fans of the bubbly star will know, it is – and personally, we love it!

He’s from Berkshire, just west of London, which could explain the well-spoken accent. He also speaks like it in every video – from his early days on Celebs Go Dating to his clips on social media. When complimented on his accent by Marvin Humes on The Voice back in 2016, Tom joked, ‘It’s rather plummy, I’m a bit of a cultural throwback I’m afraid. I’m not gorgeous and contemporary like you.’

His voice also left the panel shocked. Then-judge Paloma Faith said, You tricked us, you don’t look anything like what you sound like,’ with Will.i.am chiming in, ‘I thought you were like 85.’

What is Tom Read Wilson’s net worth?

Tom’s net worth isn’t reported online anywhere, but it’s believed his fee for appearing on I’m A Celebrity is likely around £60,000 to £80,000 – reflecting his ‘popularity and the value he brings as a warm, familiar TV personality.’

What has Tom Read Wilson said about joining I’m A Celebrity?

Alongside overcoming his fears, Tom has revealed that his one concern about going on the ITV show is the lack of intellectual stimulation up for grabs in the Australian jungle.

He explained, ‘I’m fearful as a porcupine and I am very nervous that my grey cells [brain] won’t dance properly in camp, too. At home, I do a cryptic crossword every day, I always have a book on the go, and I am a bit worried that my frontal lobes will drop off if I don’t have a lubricant for it.’

Does Tom Read Wilson have Instagram?

He does! You can follow him on Instagram @tomreadwilson – where he’ll also teach you a new word each day.

I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! airs every night at 9pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
