Jennifer Garner helps pack food boxes for Mercer County students

MERCER COUNTY, W.Va. (WVVA) – Mercer County Public Schools is expanding its partnership with Mountaineer Food Bank after a volunteer packing day on Friday that brought staff, community volunteers and actress and advocate Jennifer Garner together to prepare food boxes for local students and families.

The Extra Mile program delivers nutritious food directly to the doors of students in need. Operated by Mountaineer Food Bank in collaboration with local school districts, the program has grown to meet demand and now includes expanded service into Clay County to better support families facing food insecurity.

On Friday, volunteers gathered to pack boxes of shelf-stable and fresh items for distribution. School officials said the hands-on work offered an opportunity to see the partnership’s impact firsthand and to celebrate the community effort behind the program.
