French-Israeli hit squad? As Candace Owens spirals into lunacy, blame the digital media cesspool

Can someone who cares about Candace Owens please get her to a psychiatrist?
Then again, the millions of viewers who lap up her crazed content could probably use a head check, too.
In an X post Saturday, Owens claimed that “a high-ranking employee of the French Government” had warned her that President Emmanuel Macron and First Lady Brigitte Macron “have executed upon and paid for” her assassination; the kill squad includes at least “one Israeli.”
She’s losing her last pinky-finger hold on reality.
These paranoid delusions of grandeur are no surprise to anyone who’s been paying the slightest attention to Owens’ decline.
She’s been claiming since last year that the Brigitte Macron is trans and the Macrons are part of a pedophilic cult called the “Frankists” that founded Israel (!!) and has even suggested Brigitte may actually be Emmanuel’s biological father.

Along the way, she also fanned the flames of the crazed conspiracy theory that Israel had something to do with the assassination of her onetime friend, Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk.
In other words, Candace Owens has gone full Alex Jones.
And it sure draws eyeballs: Her YouTube has 5.6 million subscribers; she has 7.4 million followers on X.
The first episode in her Macron smear series, “Becoming Brigitte: An Introduction,” got 5 million views.
Her deranged Franco-Israeli-hit-squad post drew 39 million views over the weekend.
We expect most are just marveling at the Dumpster fire, but it’s still an appalling sign of how today’s digital media landscape has become a cesspool where personality and scandal (including blatant pseudo-scandal) outweigh anything resembling sanity or substance.
Every click boosts Owens’ profile, puts money in her pocket and puts her into the feeds of equally unhinged viewers who do buy what she’s selling.
The algorithms that decide what content gets attention reward the salacious and encourage the spread of delusional thinking.
Owens has always been a bit of a crank, but could once pass herself off as stable enough to rub shoulders with mainstream conservatives; she cut her teeth at The Daily Wire and Turning Point.
But her sanity (or at least the mentality she exhibits for profit) has long been disintegrating, encouraged by the fact that the more outlandish she gets, the more fame she draws.
And now the last of it is vanishing in real time.
Candace plainly needs a serious welfare check — but so does the conspiracy-boosting online media world that’s pulled her spiraling down into madness. .
