Is that Tom Read Wilson’s real voice? I’m A Celeb star’s friend reveals if his unusual accent is an “act”

Between contraband, celebrities with surprising royal connections, and rumoured feuds, this season of I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! has already sparked a lot of conversations. But, perhaps the biggest talking point (literally) on this year’s series is Tom Read Wilson’s voice.
The Celebs Go Dating star undeniably has a very iconic accent, which has been a hot topic both in and outside of the jungle. “Everything you say sounds so expensive,” Aitch said to Tom during a recent episode, before challenging him to try a Mancunian accent, which he absolutely nailed. “It even fooled me,” the rapper said in response, echoing thoughts from viewers. “I’m convinced his accent is fake,” one I’m A Celeb viewer said on Reddit, while another commented: “I’m just not sure that’s his normal voice. I feel like he puts it on for TV.”
Over on TikTok, a clip of Tom doing an Essex accent has also gone viral. As he chats to The Only Way Is Essex’s James Argent, Tom puts on another stellar performance. “Nah there’s no way he’s putting that on. That’s his real voice,” someone said of Tom’s Essex alter ego, as another agreed, commenting: “That’s blatantly his real voice.” So, what does Tom’s real voice actually sound like? Is that Tom Read Wilson’s real voice?
Speaking on an episode of Lorraine this week, Tom’s close pal and Celebs Go Dating co-star, Anna Williamson, said: “It’s probably the most common question everybody says, ‘does he really talk like that?'”
“I can now clarify, absolutely, Tom Read Wilson speaks like that,” she continued. Anna then explained that Tom’s background in musical theatre means he is a “trained actor”, but his jungle accent is “not an act”.
What has Tom Read Wilson said about his voice?
After being asked by Aitch about “all this lingo”, Tom revealed that he credits his vocabulary, accent, and passion for etymology to his “wonderful” dad, who was an English teacher.
Tom also drew comparisons between his love of language with Aitch’s skills as a rapper. “I think it’s very like what you do in another way, because you’re a poet,” he told him. “I’m not a poet at all, but I love the lyricism of it.”
I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! continues every night on ITV1 and ITVX at 9pm.
