You are the s***’: Singer’s very bizarre tribute to Perth

It’s difficult to imagine higher praise of Perth from a touring musician than American performer Doja Cat’s simulated French kiss of the entire city to support her claim this town is “the s***”.

Yes, you read that right.

Early Sunday morning, in the hours following the Grammy winner’s RAC Arena show to launch the Australian leg of her Ma Vie World Tour, the singer proclaimed her love for the West Coast city in a dimly lit, yet bizarrely authentic video shared to TikTok.

With Doja’s face scraping into the bottom left corner of the screen, the star presented herself sans any of the brightly coloured wigs or flashy accessories that underpin her wild stage persona.

“Hey, what’s up y’all. I just wanted to say thank you for last night, that was f****** amazing and you’re very cool, and when you support me it feels very good,” she said modestly.

“I want to do a show like that night every night, and better… so I will be on vocal rest, and will be taking care of whatever the f*** happened to my throat last night.

“And… you (Perth) are the s***.”

The 30-year-old — real name Amala Ratna Zandile Dlamini — rocked an 80s-inspired number on stage in Perth that featured big blonde hair, a leopard print body suit and purple leggings.

Facing recent heat from fans in Auckland for opting not to change her outfits mid-show like other touring pop stars, Doja addressed the backlash by snatching a sign from a fan in the mosh pit that read “F***k costume changes” and proceeded to briefly chew on it.

Continuing her oddly romantic love letter to Perth on Sunday, the unpredictable act had further niceties to say about her first Aussie tour stop.

“You looked so good today, did you get a haircut? … I love you,” she added.

The Paint the Town Red singer then closed her eyes and began to simulate a tongue kiss before catching herself and teasing, “just kidding”.

“But I just wanted to say that was really fun and I can’t wait, I think we’re going to Brisbane next,” she concluded.

“Thank you, Perth.”

Doja Cat is due to perform in Melbourne on Tuesday night at Rod Laver Arena.
