Winter Storm Watch for heavy lake effect snow & strong wind in CNY

A Winter Storm Watch has been issued for heavy lake effect snow and strong wind later this week. This watch includes Onondaga, Madison, Oneida, Herkimer, Oswego, Lewis and Jefferson counties from Thursday through Saturday morning.

Road conditions will be mainly wet for the next few days, but Friday looks the worst for travel in CNY. It’ll be windy, cold with highs in the lower 30s and snow-covered roads with heavy lake effect snow in CNY.

WEATHER SYSTEM FOR TUESDAY

The forecast for Tuesday in CNY is quiet for the first half of the day with increasing clouds and dry road conditions. Breezy and mild with a high of 51 midday. Then widespread rain develops between 1-3pm from south to north across CNY, staying steady through the afternoon to evening, then becoming scattered overnight and tapering by sunrise.

Here’s a look at the weather system on the way for Wednesday:

WEATHER SYSTEM FOR WEDNESDAY

This next weather system will bring a big warmup Wednesday with a high around 60 degrees! The record high is 67 set back in 1979. Then a cold front brings a line of rain from west to east through CNY between 3-6pm. Becoming cold and windy on Thursday with heavy lake effect snow for Northern & Western NY, light snow showers and flurries for CNY and a high of 38. Then the lake effect snow drops south into CNY Thursday night with snow squalls possible. The snow stays over CNY through Friday with strong wind, tapering off Saturday.
