Report: Toronto Blue Jays have ‘checked in’ on All-Star 2B Ketel Marte

Fresh off of their first World Series appearance in 32 years, Ross Atkins and the Toronto Blue Jays aren’t ready to rest on their laurels.

The team has recently completed a couple of minor signings in the early part of the offseason, and could now be looking to make a splash in the trade market, according to MLB Network’s Jon Morosi.

Morosi reports that the Blue Jays have “checked in” on Arizona Diamondbacks All-Star second baseman Ketel Marte.

“I think it’s at least a 50-50 chance he could be moved,” said Morosi in an appearance on MLB Network Tuesday morning. “The Diamondbacks are actively listening on Ketel Marte … among the teams to check in: the Phillies and the Blue Jays.

He also notes that Marte did not list Toronto on his limited no-trade clause list.

Marte, 32, signed a six-year, $116 million extension with the Diamondbacks this past April that holds a player option for the 2031 season.

In 126 games last season, Marte slashed .283/.376/.517 while collecting 136 hits, 28 doubles, 28 homers, and 72 RBI.

A native of Nizaio, Dominican Republic, Marte has made three All-Star teams over the course of his 11-year career and finished as a finalist for the 2024 National League MVP award as part of a 36-homer, 95-RBI campaign with the D-Backs.

The two-time Silver Slugger has spent the past eight seasons in Arizona after being traded alongside Taijuan Walker from the Seattle Mariners in exchange for Mitch Haniger, Jean Segura, and Zac Martin ahead of the 2017 season.
