A Frequent Tim Burton Collaborator Joins WEDNESDAY Season 3

The Addams Family on Wednesday is growing a bit ahead of Season 3. Netflix has announced that horror maven Eva Green is joining the next season of the hit series created by Tim Burton, playing a long-lost member of the clan: Morticia’s estranged and long lost sister Ophelia Frump.

Green, known for her roles in projects like Casino Royale and Penny Dreadful, joins a season that includes returning faces Jenna Ortega, Emma Myers, Billie Piper, Luis Guzmán, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Joanna Lumley, and Fred Armisen. Her casting marks a massive step forward for the popular series, after Wednesday had a vision of Ophelia in Season 2, locked away in Grandmama Hester’s mansion.

“I’m thrilled to join the woefully twisted world of Wednesday as Aunt Ophelia,” Green said to Netflix. “This show is such a deliciously dark and witty world, I can’t wait to bring my own touch of cuckooness to the Addams Family.”

Green has worked with Burton numerous times, most recently on Disney’s doomed live-action remake of Dumbo, alongside Colin Farrell and Danny DeVito. She also starred in Burton’s adaptation of Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children, and featured in another adaptation of a popular 1960s television show — 2012’s Dark Shadows, where she featured as Angelique Bouchard alongside Johnny Depp’s Barnabas Collins.

“Eva Green has always brought an exhilarating, singular presence to the screen — elegant, haunting and beautifully unpredictable. Those qualities make her the perfect choice for Aunt Ophelia,” said Wednesday showrunners Al Gough and Miles Millar. “We’re excited to see how she transforms the role and expands Wednesday’s world.”

Green will be tackling a role only seen one other time in Addams Family history, in the ‘60s television series that made the creepy and kooky family part of pop culture history. There, she was played by Morticia actress Carolyn Jones, in order to show just how similar the sisters were, but it seems like this version of Ophelia will be quite different, with psychic powers similar to Wednesday’s that will “hit [the] family like a bomb,” according to Millar.

Wednesday Season 3 has not set a release date. Stay tuned to FANGORIA for more updates as they arrive.
