The Chilliwack Fire Department was called to a fully involved chicken barn fire that broke out on Chilliwack River Road on Tuesday morning (Nov. 25).

Fire crews were called to the two-alarm fire at 6550 Chilliwack River Road near Bailey Road at about 10:10 a.m. as grey smoke rose in the air and crews from several fire halls travelled to the scene.

The barn roof had collapsed in on itself as crews worked to wet down affected sides of the burning structure.

It is not known if there were any livestock or chickens inside the barn.

The gas and electrical services to the building were shut off.

Firefighters were working to put it out as a 100 per cent defensive fire to protect all the exposures.

Chilliwack River Road was closed to through traffic between Bailey Road and Stevenson Road.
