If you are planning on travelling north over the next couple of days, plan accordingly. That’s the message the James Bay Ontario Provincial Police are pushing today as
A winter storm warning is in effect for Timmins, Cochrane and Iroquois Falls, with Environment Canada forecasting 25 to 35 centimetres of snow from Tuesday night and ending on Thursday.
“Earlier this month, James Bay OPP responded to multiple collisions during the season’s first storm, including commercial vehicle rollovers and near misses involving emergency vehicles. These incidents highlight the importance of adjusting driving habits during winter weather,” said OPP in a news release.
Ahead of this week’s storm, police are advising drivers to prepare for the hazardous driving conditions.
“Heavy snowfall and blowing snow are expected across the region, creating slippery roads, reduced visibility, and an increased risk of collisions. Motorists should anticipate delays and plan accordingly,” said OPP in a news release.
“Drivers are reminded to slow down and increase following distances, avoid sudden braking, and use headlights in low visibility. Clear all snow and ice from your vehicle before driving and give yourself extra time to reach your destination.”
Road conditions and closures are available on Ontario 511.
