Panthers sign former 1st-round pick from Clemson who has played for Cardinals, Giants, Packers

Coming off a tough loss on Monday Night Football, the Carolina Panthers have wasted no time trying to get better.
They signed a former first-round pick on Tuesday.
The new signing: Isaiah Simmons. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported the news Tuesday afternoon.
Simmons was a versatile college star at Clemson.
The Arizona Cardinals drafted him with the No. 8 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft with hopes of him being a hybrid linebacker/safety who could do anything on defense.
He played fine in the desert but never developed into the star they hoped for.
In three seasons with the Cardinals, Simmons played in 50 games. He had 258 tackles, 7.5 sacks and four interceptions.
Simmons then spent the 2023 and 2024 seasons with the New York Giants. In 34 games, he had 71 tackles, one interception and one sack.
This summer, Simmons played for the Green Bay Packers in the preseason. But he was released ahead of NFL cutdown day.
Simmons hadn’t gotten a contract since then, but the Panthers have brought him aboard now.
He’s still just 27 years old, so the 6-foot-4, 238-pound Simmons may be able to latch on somewhere in the NFL and show he still belongs. His next chance to do that will be with the Panthers.
