It’s understood that Seier died in a bike accident in the Exuma district of the Bahamas.

Seier spent 24 years at Goldman Sachs. One former MD who worked with her there describes her as an “amazing woman.” She left Goldman in 2022 and became head of international capital markets at the New York Stock Exchange. Seier was also CEO and president of the group Women in Financial Markets.

A spokesperson for the NYSE said: “We are devastated by the news that our colleague Cassanda Seier passed away over the weekend. Cassandra joined us as Head of International Capital Markets in 2022, after a distinguished career at Goldman Sachs. She was integral to our team, and an incredibly strong, vibrant member of our NYSE community. Our thoughts are with her family during this difficult time.”

Seir posted yesterday on LinkedIn to say she’d travelled to the WebSummit technology conference in Lisbon with Sumit Gupta, the NYSE’s co-head of EMEA Capital Markets.

Seir is survived by her young son and husband, Thomas Seier. “When I travel abroad, I call home twice a day,” she said last year.

Seier is thought to have been injured on the beautiful Highbourne Cay when her bike ran out of control. Local news reports said she was taken by plane to the hospital at New Providence, the biggest island on the Bahamas.
