Bruno Tonioli Celebrates Milestone 70th Birthday as Dancing with the Stars Season 34 Finale Approaches

Bruno Tonioli, a prominent figure on “Dancing with the Stars,” is celebrating his 70th birthday today. This milestone coincides with the grand finale of season 34, where one of the competitors—Robert Irwin, Alix Earle, Elaine Hendrix, Jordan Chiles, or Dylan Efron—will take home the prestigious Len Goodman Mirrorball Trophy. Tonioli has been a mainstay on the show for two decades, and this year also marks his 20th anniversary on the American dance competition. His journey in the dance industry started well before DWTS, with an impressive 15 years spent on the British version, “Strictly Come Dancing,” along with a lengthy career as a choreographer for notable music legends.
Tonioli’s career began in the vibrant world of choreography and performance, where he worked with A-list musicians including Elton John, Tina Turner, and the Rolling Stones, showcasing his talents in various iconic settings, including music videos. He gained significant public recognition in 2004 when he became a judge on “Strictly Come Dancing,” joining a panel that included familiar faces such as Craig Revel Horwood and Arlene Phillips, as well as head judge Len Goodman.
His popularity soared as he crossed the Atlantic, joining Goodman and Carrie Ann Inaba for the U.S. adaptation, “Dancing with the Stars,” just a year later. Over the years, Tonioli’s vibrant personality and unique judging style earned him a devoted fan base. However, in 2018, he began to wind down his involvement with “Strictly,” ultimately stepping away in 2019 to focus more on DWTS, with Anton Du Beke taking over his role in 2022.
In 2020, Tonioli made his return to “Dancing with the Stars” with a notable transformation, shifting from his signature jet-black hair to a striking silver look. His renewed presence brought an infectious energy back to the ballroom, captivating audiences once again.

As he continues to grace the DWTS stage, Tonioli remains a beloved judge, although the future of the show in terms of a 35th season remains uncertain. Interestingly, while he is open about his exuberant on-screen persona, Tonioli keeps his personal life private. He has been in a relationship with Jason Schanne since 2010, and the couple reportedly had a commitment ceremony in 2012.
As fans celebrate this significant birthday with him, there’s no doubt that Tonioli’s legacy in dance and television will continue to inspire both viewers and dancers alike for years to come.
