Watch: Dallas Stars captain Jamie Benn scores long-awaited career goal No. 400

At long last, history for the Dallas Stars’ longtime captain Jamie Benn.
On Tuesday night against the Edmonton Oilers, Benn scored the 400th goal of his career, all of them for Dallas, when he tucked a Wyatt Johnston pass past Oilers goalie Stuart Skinner.
Benn netted goal No. 399 263 days ago on March 8 against the Oilers.

He twice scored what was, at the time, believed to be his 400th goal, both during the 2024 season. In a game against Utah, Benn scored No. 400 before having it overruled due to goalie interference. Then against the Red Wings he seemingly scored on a breakaway before the goal was actually ruled to have been tapped in by Stars defenseman Lian Bichsel. Benn was believed to have scored goal No. 400 for nearly an entire period before it was awarded to Bichsel at intermission.
The real No. 400, now official, is Benn’s first goal of the year after he missed the first 19 games of the Stars’ season due to a collapsed lung suffered in the preseason.
Benn is just the second player in Dallas Stars history to score 400 goals with the club, the first of course being Mike Modano. Modano is far and away the franchise’s all-time leading scorer at 557 goals, but Benn took sole possession of second place in 2022. He’ll continue to build his second-place lead, and there won’t be anyone threatening for a while.

One franchise record Benn does hold ownership of is time spent as the team’s captain, as he’s been at that post for well over a decade now. Benn originally had the ‘C’ put on his chest in 2013, and his 13 seasons spent as captain are ahead of Derian Hatcher’s nine and Brenden Morrow’s seven. Benn also holds the Stars’ record for games played.
Benn’s next milestone on the horizon could be the 1,000-point mark. He currently sits at 958 and could potentially hit four digits this season or early next year.
