(Video): Chelsea’s under pressure striker scores after Enzo assist and celebration says everything

He’s done it! Liam Delap has a first goal of the season!

Chelsea haven’t let up since adding their second goal, and they’ve been rewarded with a third. Enzo Fernandez took up a position on the left wing where he was able to break the offside trap and feed the ball in to Delap.

The striker took a nice first time finish, but looked gutted to have his goal ruled out for offside. However VAR eventually found that Enzo had not strayed ahead of the defensive line, and the goal was given.

You can see the goal in the clips embedded here:

The tension had been rising on Delap – a long injury to start his Chelsea career wasn’t ideal, a red card on his return after that was even worse. So he needed to make amends, and his performances since the suspension ended haven’t impressed.

He needed a goal just to get the confidence back and to get the fans onside, and today should help massively with that. You could see the relief lifted from his shoulders the moment the VAR gave the green light, and the celebrations of his teammates showed they were all feeling his pain as he searched for a first goal of the season.

Let’s hope he takes this confidence into a huge game on Sunday.

Estevao Willian had already pretty much sealed the win by scoring a superb second from a tight angle.

Chelsea opened the scoring in this game through Pedro Neto, who turned in a nice flick after Marc Cucurella drove down the right.
