NBA scoring leader Luka Doncic breaks Lakers franchise record

The Los Angeles Lakers are in great form. They enter tonight’s game against the Los Angeles Clippers with a 12-4 record, third in the Western Conference. Not only did they recently get LeBron James back from injury, they’ve also won their last four straight.
However, they weren’t going to stop there. As usual, the NBA’s current leading scorer Luka Doncic came out hot, scoring 24 points in the first quarter against the Clippers. This breaks the Lakers all-time record for points in a first quarter that was tied by Kyle Kuzma and Doncic himself who scored 23 in the first quarter against the Minnesota Timberwolves earlier in the season.
Somehow, despite his scoring outburst, the Lakers trailed by one at the end of the first quarter 38-37.
Doncic, who won a scoring title in the 2023-24 season, with 33.9 points per game, is averaging 34.5 per contest this year. His teammate Austin Reaves is 13th, at 27.6 per game.
On the opposing side, James Harden is also climbing the leaderboard, ranking 11th in scoring with 27.8 points per game after scoring a franchise record 55 points against the Charlotte Hornets over the weekend.
As for Doncic, he’ll have plenty of more work to do to break the Lakers franchise record for points in a game, as the legendary Kobe Bryant once scored 81 for the purple and gold.
Doncic is on the bench to begin the second quarter as the Lakers hope to take down the Clippers in the battle for LA.
