Inside The Numbers: Byrum Brown’s Awesome Senior Season At USF

Byrum Brown (USF Athletics)
TAMPA, Fla. – Byrum Brown is the only USF quarterback to have thrown for 3,000 yards, which he did in 2023, and he heads into the final week of the regular season needing 117 yards to reach that plateau for the second time. Brown is also 96 yards shy of reaching 1,000 on the ground.
Ideally, he would achieve 3,000/1,000 in his final home game Saturday evening (7:00/ESPN+) against Rice. Those in attendance could celebrate a feat that has been accomplished only 11 times at the FBS level, a list that includes Lamar Jackson (twice), Jalen Hurts and Jayden Daniels.
Such a statistical accomplishment would add to the many impressive single season and career figures Brown has compiled, and continues to compile. Below is a look at some them.
6: Career 300-yard passing games, which is tied with B.J. Daniels and Matt Grothe for the most in USF history.
7: Consecutive 300-yard games of total offense heading into Saturday night’s regular season finale against Rice.

13: Rushing touchdowns this season, tied for second-highest total among quarterbacks. Georgia Tech’s Haynes King and Army’s Cale Hellums lead with 15….As far as the USF single-season record is concerned, Brown is tied with running back Andre Hall (2005) for fourth. Jaren Mangham (2021) and Marlon Mack (2016) are next with 15. Quinton Flowers (2018) holds the record with 18.
13.7: Yards per completion, which is good for 11th nationally. Florida State’s Tommy Castellanos leads the nation 15.4.
20.5: Points Brown is responsible for per game, which leads the nation. Next in line at 19.1 is Indiana quarterback Fernando Mendoza, the leading Heisman contender.
24: Touchdown passes this season, which are good for third in program history and two behind his record of 26 set in 2023. Quinton Flowers’ 25 are sandwiched in between.
30: Career rushing touchdowns, a total that is two behind Marlon Mack for second at USF. Quinton Flowers holds the mark with 41.

87: Total career touchdowns. Brown accounted for five TDs at UAB to equal Marquel Blackwell for second in program history. Quinton Flowers is No. 1 with 112.
344.3: Total offense Brown is averaging, which leads the nation. Georgia Tech’s Haynes King, who had the lead going into the past weekend’s action, is second with 339.9.
497: Thanks largely to Brown, the Bulls are second nationally in total offense. North Texas leads the way with 503 yards per game.
