River Hawks Wrap Up Road Trip at Stonehill, Host Emerson to Bookend Holiday

EASTON, Mass. – The UMass Lowell men’s basketball team (1-6) is set for two games this week around the Thanksgiving holiday. First, the team wraps up a five-game road trip at Stonehill (2-5) on Wednesday, November 26 at 12 p.m. before hosting Emerson (1-3) on Saturday, Nov. 29 at 1 p.m.
A WIN WOULD
A win against the Skyhawks would move the River Hawks to 10-6 all-time against Stonehill, and would improve UMass Lowell’s record to 2-6 on the season. It would also mark the team’s first road win of the year and the sixth straight win against Stonehill.
LAST TIME OUT
Senior Austin Green recorded a game-high 19 points, as UMass Lowell dropped a tightly-contested match at Saint Peter’s, 68-66, on Nov. 22. Green, who went 6-for-9 from the field, added 10 rebounds for his second double-double of the season. Behind him, freshman JJ Massaquoi added 18 points, while five other River Hawks recorded a basket in the contest.
LEADING THE FLOCK
Through five games, JJ Massaquoi leads the way with 15.4 points per game. Austin Green who sits second with 13.7 points per game, paces the squad with 6.9 rebounds per game. Xavier Spencer, who ranks third with 8.4 points per game, adds a team-high 26 assists, while Shawn Simmons II boasts 10 blocks to sit first on the team.
MORE TO THE STORY
The final score has not displayed the growth that this new River Hawk team has shown early this season. Despite a six-game skid, the team has led at halftime in three of the last five outings.
GOOD FIRST IMPRESSIONS
Rookie JJ Massaquoi has stood out for the River Hawks in his first collegiate appearances, posting double-digit points in five of seven games so far, including leading the team with a personal-best 26 points at Wake Forest. He was also named America East Rookie of the Week on Nov. 24.
CAREER DAY
Shawn Simmons II and Xavier Spencer both turned in career-best performances at Columbia, as Simmons II totaled 14 points and Spencer boasted 12 points and 12 assists for his first career double-double.
STARTING STRONG
The win against Rivier on Nov. 3 marked the sixth straight year that the River Hawks have opened the season with a victory. It also gave the team its 12th consecutive win in its home opener.
ROAD WARRIORS
The River Hawks will be challenged during the non-conference slate in 2025 with 10 road games on the docket, compared to just five home contests.
HOME SWEET HOME
Kennedy Family Athletic Complex, formerly Costello Athletic Center, has been very kind to the home team during the last three seasons, as the River Hawks are currently 42-6 in the building since the start of the 2022-23 campaign, including 1-1 in 2025-26.
